Meta Warns Data Breach on Facebook

Meta warns of data breach on Facebook.

Nearly one million Facebook users could have had their login information compromised.

A recent discovery on apps that require users to sign into their Facebook account had been stealing account username and password details. Facebook/Meta has discovered that over 400 apps were a part of this scheme. 1 million Facebook users may have had their Facebook credentials stolen by more than 400 malicious Android and iOS mobile apps.

This data breach shows an example of how a developer can easily disguise a data stealing app to get ahold of data. Because the Internet of Things is becoming more common, to where apps and services can connect to each other to provide a more synchronized service, some malicious developers are taking advantage of people’s growing trust in this process. An app to ask you to sign into Facebook now seems like a standard practice, as they can show you activity on the app, connect your contacts, or even collect additional data between products.
