These scam messages often pretend to be from a large organisation you trust and can be sent via email, SMS, instant messaging or social media platforms.
They often contain a link to a fake website where you are asked to enter your personal details such as your username and password or credit card details.
With your personal information cybercriminals may steal your identity, apply for accounts and loans in your name, impersonate you online, or use your credit card to buy things.
