Paris hospital falls victim to $10m cyberattack Hospitals are very attractive for attackers.
A major French hospital in the southeast Paris region has fallen victim to a $10 million ransomware cyberattack and has been struggling since this past weekend to provide emergency services and surgeries.
For further analysis on this latest cyberattack against the health care sector, FRANCE 24 is joined by Matthieu Garin, Cybersecurity Expert at Wavestone. “Hospitals are very attractive for attackers,” explains Mr. Garin. “They think that it will be easy to get the money from the ransom because the impact can be quite massive.
Blocking emergency or imagery equipment can sometimes be a matter of life or death.” And there is also the threat of leaking patient data on a massive scale, he adds. “All of those factors” make targeting hospitals, and the healthcare industry in general, a very attractive venture for cybercriminals.
