Russia-Ukraine conflict heightens need to bolster Australia’s cyber security capabilities.
The cyberactivity involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict shows the need for Australia to bolster its own defensive and offensive cyber security capabilities in the cyberspace, according to Australian Signals Directorate Director-General Rachel Noble.
“Nation-state activity in cyberspace has been both a precursor to the conflict in Eastern Europe and an integrated part of that war,” Ms Noble told Sky News Chief Anchor Kieran Gilbert. “What that’s telling us is that the capabilities we need as a nation in cyberspace to defend ourselves but also if we need to be able to strike back in cyberspace if Australia comes under such duress that we need to activate those capabilities.
“Sadly, I think what’s happening in Russia and Ukraine is really putting a big red line under that need for us.”
