The pay ID scam.
The National Australia Bank has issued a warning to people selling items online to beware of a new pay ID scam. Fake buyers are urging sellers to supposedly ‘upgrade’ their accounts. It’s a trick designed to steal money.
A PayID scam is a type of fraud where scammers use fake or compromised social media profiles to offer to purchase an item for sale online, then push for payment via PayID.
The scammers then send a fake PayID email to the seller, stating there was an issue receiving payment because PayID was not used and asking for a refund of the overpayment.
It is important to be aware of these scams and to never provide your PayID details to anyone you don’t trust. If you receive a PayID email that you think may be a scam, contact your bank or service provider immediately.
