Tipton Water Supply Cyber Attack

Russian hackers take responsibility for cyber attack against Tipton water supply.

According to multiple sources, Russian hackers have claimed responsibility for a cyber attack on the Tipton water supply in Indiana. The attack targeted the Tipton West Wastewater Treatment Plant on the night of Friday, April 19th.

However, it is important to note that the water supply was not compromised, and the plant remained operational with minimal disruption. The Tipton Municipal Utilities, which provides electricity, water, and wastewater treatment services to approximately 5,000 residents, quickly responded to the incident by deploying maintenance personnel to address the suspicious activity.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, and the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) are working collaboratively to protect public water supplies and other critical infrastructure. It is worth mentioning that this cyber attack is part of a broader pattern of similar incidents targeting water facilities in small American towns.

The Cyber Army of Russia Reborn (CARR), also known as the Cyber Army of Russia, is the group claiming responsibility for these cyber attacks on water systems. Overall, while the Tipton water supply was targeted by Russian hackers, the attack did not compromise the water supply, and the plant remained operational with minimal disruption.
